After having reintroduced pasta in my diet with a fairly good outcome, we tried wholegrain rice. It was double carb load with the chickpeas. Interestingly, like with the pasta, the rice create a double spike at 123. Also, as it’s starch, the spikes are slow and long.

Day to day: managing diabetes on the go
One thing I discovered recently is how hard it is to maintain good diabetes management habits when on the go. When at home with the routine, it’s easy to carve out time of the day for exercise and keep good eating habits. Since my diagnosis, we hadn’t travelled more than…
Fight diabetes: cheat meals and down days
I have seen people asking others what they do for cheat meals or cheat days. That really bothered me because it means to me that they don’t understand what diabetes is. Managing diabetes isn’t like being on a diet to lose weight. When you’re on a diet simply to lose…
Day to day: reintroduction of pasta
After having reached normal levels of glycemia at all times and 3 months without medication (potential remission) we started to reintroduce foods I haven’t had for 9 months. Yesterday was pasta’s turn in the form of my wife’s mushroom pasta bolognese. As pasta is starchy, I was expecting a long…

Fight diabetes: take action immediately
It is more and more accepted that diabetes can be brought into remission. Some people call it reversal, but reversal implies that it is permanent and there isn’t enough data at the moment to support the claim (the DiRECT study lasted 2 years, the Counterbalance study lasted 6 months, the…
Fight diabetes: the importance of education
As diabetes is you and you are your diabetes, managing your diabetes is a personal thing. It’s up to you and you only to do what’s needed. That management can only be done through understanding. Education is the key. A lot of people ask questions that show that they want…
Fight diabetes: what about keto?
A lot of people swear by the keto diet. With it’s ultra-low carb contents, it tends to lead to weight loss. But is it good to control diabetes? We can compare the keto diet to other similar diets, e.g. Mediterranean and low carb diets. The evidence is that both keto…
